Karrie's Box of Thoughts

*Insert picture of Karrie pulling her hair out here:_____*

Birthdays... Mine was last week (the most important, of course! lol), My mom's is today, my niece's is Weds and the boy-child's is next Tues. oh, and my other niece the week after that. Add to that the b-days we celebrate at work, school, etc... and I'm birthday'd out! This is the second worst birthday block for me, next to the May/June/July onslaught.

And what else have we got going this week? Hmmm, let's see: 4 dance classes, 1 piano lesson, and a piano recital for Meems, 2 hockey practices, 1 hockey clinic and 1 hockey game for the Boodge. Now being that the hubby is the asst coach for said boy-child's hockey team that means he also has 2 hockey practices, 1 hockey clinic, 1 hockey game and add to his list, his own hockey team's game. Moi? Between dance practices, hockey practices, piano recitals, b-days and hockey games, I walked in to a dept today @ work with 3 people working and there is normally 8. I have been picked for a "Op Ex" committee and have meetings for that (pleeez) and I have to somehow find time to run around and get things ready for Dede's Halloween party and a T-birds hockey game, both on Saturday night.

Speaking of Dede...I truly love that girl! I told her that I didn't think I could make the Halloween party this year because I forgot we had tickets for the T-Birds the same night. I had missed the opening night game because all my girlies and guys had come to town and the kids really wanted me to come. She said that was Ok, she understood. THEN after she stewed for a few, I got the real story. She was totally bummed. Now, I would have still blown her off and brought up plenty of examples of her exercising her favorite line "Pick you battles" but then she sez... you've been a part of it for so long, I started thinking of it as "Our party", even her hubby was flabbergasted and demanded to know what Dede had done to piss me off! I'm sorry, but that was too much. It was awfully sweet of the both of them to feel that way, and I couldn't resist. So I will be doing double duty and going to both. Since I have to do both, it did inspire me to come up with a costume, and Meems has now stolen the idea and wants to do the same, so if I can pull off one, I guess two won't be that much harder.

Speaking of Meems...*sigh* what a cutie she was this weekend. That girl takes after her mom way too much. Poor, poor Hubby! The boy-child's hockey game was at the pit of hell ice arena this time. This place is an old Safeway store that they basically poured water in the middle of the floor and called it good. It's freezing, the ice sucks and there is a smelled that can not be described. HOWEVER, it is also the practice ice for the Seattle Thunderbirds and guess who was there Saturday morning. Guess who stood by the girl-child and watched her little brother play, 2 of her favorite goalies...awwwww. I had more fun watching her and listening to her go "Oh!" when one of them came out of the locker rooms, although I do have a bruise from her slapping me. My parents were in town and came to the game and my dad said the same thing, "I had more fun watching Em! That girl is going to give her dad fits!" Yep, poor, poor Hubby! Such a time he has trying to keep his two girls under control.....

Well, for someone bitching about no time, I sure rambled on, uh?! Oh well, last of the "me time" for the week. Probably won't be around here much, so have a great week everyone!

Oh, my aching back.....

Doing community service should make you feel good, not hurt like hell, right?! Yesterday was our annual day at a local school, helping in the classrooms, clean-up around the school and (lucky me!) working in the gardens. Anyone who might have popped in and saw my weather pixie may know that yesterday was not a great day for gardening. Let's see... October + Seattle = RAIN!!
And anyone who knows moi, knows there aren't enough hair products to maintain my "do" when subjected to 4 straight hours of rain. NOT PRETTY!! **shudder** And of course today is beautiful and sunny....FIGURES!!

But other than blisters on my hands, my aching back and so on, it was a fun day!! The school is 60% low-income and we have sort of adopted it. Backpacks and school supplies in September and so on. It's always fun.

But, I'm way behind at work and gotta run. Have a great day!

THANKS TO ALL!!

A big Thank You!! To all of you for the Birthday wishes!!

A very quite birthday, which after last weekend was just what the doctor ordered. Dinner with the in-laws and my parents was very nice. They haven't seen each other for a couple of years and the four of them enjoyed catching up. Which left me alone to inhale spaghetti and cheesy garlic bread in peace. OINK!! lol.

And except for the boy-child breaking my standing candle holder and managing to pop both lenses out of my glasses, it was a very uneventful weekend. Let's hope the week stays that way....

Wow! A week goes by fast!!

I've got a headache from the sugar rush, the flowers and trying to read all the well wishes on the card..... But hey, your birthday only comes around once a year, so I guess I'll suffer through it, LOL! Yes, my official B-day is coming on Sunday, but the gang at work through me a wing ding, decorated cubby, flowers, cake and of course the GORGEOUS flowers delivered from the hubby. Thanks to all! MWAH, Love ya to the hubby! It was a very nice way to end a very long and stressful week.

And yes, it's been a week. Was it really a week ago I was on my way to the airport to pick up Jules! Guess it was....Miss ya girl! Hubby just doesn't seem to want to stay up all night and talk about the fashion sense of some other guy!! Hmm, go figure!

I miss them all - Patty, Tammy, Mojo Brian and Cindy. And those guys from Pyro. (A blast as usual!!)

If you popped in and read Miss Jules, Miss Patty or Miss Tammy's blogs you got the gist that we had an awesome time! Hell, we could have gotten a room, ordered in and just talked all night. With that group, it would have been a blast! In fact, that's what ended up happening a couple times...McChicken and a barf bag, anyone?

That's about all I have time for... Have a great weekend everyone!

The longest case of PMS on record!!

Geez erupt already, will ya?!?! All weekend, all week..."Volcano Watch '04!!" I'm bored now.... I'm mean, it's sort of exciting for awhile...But every burp and wheeze?!?!

I have to say the first time it blew in '80 was pretty exciting. My most vivid memory is a look on my family's face. My dad worked for the phone company and was on the emergency response team that was to be the first over there to set up communications. He had to have his bags packed for weeks and there was a plane on stand by at the airport to fly out when they got the word. And so one Sunday morning, our house was rocked by a boom and everyone started to scramble....Except me.

In a lot of ways, I haven't changed very much over the years. And the Sunday after a Saturday night, is one of those ways. (the Saturday nights are fewer and far between though, lol) When my parents heard the boom and felt the house shake their first thought was the garage had collapsed, and my room was over the garage. After my mom opened my bedroom door and didn't have to look down and find my bed on the garage floor, the phone rings. The mountain had erupted, dad needed to get to the airport. So as mom, dad and my brother scramble to get my dad ready, I'm blissfully unawares and sleeping off the effects of the night before. Until all the racket they're making wakes me up! I come storming out of my room and yell down the hall "what's going on, geez keep it down!". At which point all three of them turn around and give me a look like I have lost my mind. "what?!?" And my mother, with that look and that tone that I can honestly say I have become quite good at myself, sez..."Well Karrie, Mt St Helens has erupted and your father has gotten the call that he needs to go. Would you like to say goodbye, or just go back to bed....?" Now, I might have been humbled, but I am my mother's daughter and I caught the sneer from my brother! Daddy's girl gave big hugs and kisses and all was right in the world! (even if the world was still spinning a little and my head felt like it was going to erupt as bad as Mt St Helens!) Dad wasn't home for awhile and watching the news it was easy to see why, so much devastation!! The ash was so bad, he couldn't fly or drive home if he wanted too. Total "Day to night" stuff.

But now it's 24(!) years later, dad's retired and rolling around the country with mom in the RV. Just got a call from them in Ritzville, Wa. Saying they are on their way up here. I jokingly told them to stay away from the mountain, she's acting up again. And knowing my dad, he'd stop by and offer to help in that folksy, "well, I was here in '80...Tell ya what ya need to do...." kinda way I love so! Now my mom - Ah my mom - she knows I'm meeting up with all my girlies for one of those weekends, her reply "Planning on sleeping through this one too....?!?!" Grrrr - the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, I'll give her that one! *wink* which is why I love her so.

I'll be glad when they get here, I miss 'em......

Friday's Random Thoughts....

** After talking to Jules on the celly last night, I am Super De Dooper! (Whoa, Barney flashback!) to see everybody coming to The Emerald City next Friday!!

**
Do you know it took 4 phone calls to get a new mouse for my computer at work today. I mean I have no problem beating on the thing some more, but I thought I might give my cubie neighbors a break from the expletives that escape my mouth....

**
Last night at the same time - Escape from NY on AMC, Escape from LA on Sci-Fi channel. 80's Kurt Russell AND 90's Kurt Russell..... Still YUMMMMY!!!

**
Why in the hell is Dede having ANOTHER Pampered Chef party tonight. I mean between her, me and the rest of the women in the neighborhood we've got enough of the stuff to start our own outlet store...Geez, I still have stuff from the last party I haven't taken out of the bag. I think I'm just going to concentrate on the Margaritas and Munchies this time.

** Update: 12:10 PST, Mt St Helens just release a thick plume of smoke and steam. Will we see more......
