The walk..... It soooo high school but..... To set up the scenario: Add 1 pre-teen girl, hockey boys between the age of 15-20, and the circumference of the Key Arena and you have "my between periods shits and giggles" during a T-Birds hockey game. Location, Location, Location is also important; Our seats are nicely situated in the lower bowl of "The Key", 8 rows up from the visitors bench and one section over from where the players, not playing that night, sit and take stats. To get to our seats, you have to go down a flight of steps, we have our own bathrooms and concession stand and it's quite nice. Those flight of steps also lead right down to the doors that lead to the locker rooms.... and so: First we MUST arrive at least 1 hour early for the pre-game warm up on the ice. Girl-child then scans the ice to see who's not suited up for the game. Next, we wait for the official announcement of which players won't be playing that night. A quick glance over to section 125 confirms we have players in sight. At this point, my part calls for me to turn to Girl-child and ask "Are we doin' the walk?" the response is always the same, "Oh YEAH!". Let the fun begin! The end of the first period comes and the position of our seats means that by the time we hit the stairs up to the main concourse, hockey players are coming down to head to the locker room. Check, First contact! Next we have to walk around The Key at a leisurely pace. Now, there are times when we have the bonus of trying to spot a certain goalie the Girl-child has a crush on at school, but usually it's just "the walk". By the time we get around The Key, certain players have come out of the locker room and are heading back to their seats. But of course they get stopped by fans or the "rink bunnies" all dolled up to impress. And we have our second sighting! Girl-child is happy for another period and we do it all again. Although 'tween 2nd and 3rd period we make a stop and get ice cream. Hehe. Actually, I can't complain. It's great that she even thinks it's cool to hang around with me and feels OK giggling about boys with her MOTHER. That's something you hold on to as long as you can. Although the latest addition is a 16 year old that was drafted out of the Bantams in.....Calgary, AB! (Miss Patty! *wink*). Now I did that math alittle quicker then Dad and when Em piped up and said, "ya know he's only 4 years older then me!" Hubby had a bit of a melt down! LOL! And my next chance to "walk" is Saturday. The playoffs start and we surprised the kiddlets with tickets. My brother called out of the blue last weekend and told me they're coming up from Denver and should be here by Sunday, so I suppose that will take care of the Easter plans. So all of you have a great weekend and a Happy Easter! As told by moi
